Outdoor LED displays for businesses

Complete LED display solutions for advertising, information and large-format communication

Custom outdoor solutions

LED displays built for visibility and continuous operation

An outdoor LED display can be built in almost any size or format. This makes the technology suitable for everything from digital advertising signs and façade displays to large information displays, arenas and freestanding installations.

The right solution is selected based on viewing distance, placement, ambient light, weather exposure, content and planned operating hours. The display also needs to be adapted to the building or structure on which it will be installed.

We deliver complete solutions including the LED display, supporting structure, video processing, installation and different options for content management.

Our range

LED displays for outdoor installation

We offer carefully selected outdoor LED displays with high brightness, durable construction, stable performance and a long service life for different types of permanent installations.

Every recommendation is based on the location, viewing distance, display size, weather exposure, content, operating hours and budget. We then recommend the display and technical specification that best match the requirements of the project.

Designed for outdoor environments

The right brightness, durability and technology for every location

An outdoor LED display needs to perform in direct sunlight, rain, snow, changing temperatures and other conditions that are not present in a typical indoor environment.

We combine the LED display, supporting structure, video processing and control into a complete installation adapted to the technical and visual conditions of the location.

Clear images in daylight

Brightness is specified according to the placement of the display, its orientation and exposure to direct sunlight.

This keeps the content clear and readable throughout the day.

Built for outdoor environments

The enclosure, materials, cooling and electronics are selected according to the location’s exposure to rain, dust, changing temperatures and other external conditions.

The right pixel pitch for the viewing distance

Pixel pitch is selected according to the shortest normal viewing distance, the display size and the level of detail required in the content.

This provides sufficient image quality and readability without making the installation unnecessarily expensive.

Designed for continuous operation

The display, power supply and video processing are specified according to the operating hours, availability requirements and future service and maintenance needs.

Choosing an LED display

How we select the right outdoor LED solution

There is no single LED display that is right for every outdoor installation. The correct choice is primarily affected by viewing distance, display size, ambient light, weather exposure, supporting structure and how the content will be used.

Viewing distance and pixel pitch

Pixel pitch describes the distance between the pixels of an LED display and is measured in millimetres. A lower value means that the pixels are positioned closer together, allowing the image to remain sharp at shorter viewing distances.

A display located near an entrance or walkway will normally require a finer pixel pitch than a large façade display that is mainly viewed from farther away.

The aim is not always to choose the lowest possible pixel pitch. The correct specification should provide sufficient detail and readability without making the installation unnecessarily expensive.

Brightness and placement

An outdoor LED display needs sufficient brightness to keep the content clearly visible in daylight.

The required brightness depends on factors including orientation, direct sunlight, placement and the type of content being displayed. A south-facing display may have very different requirements from a display installed in a shaded location.

Brightness can be controlled automatically according to the time of day. This provides a clear image during daylight while preventing the display from becoming unnecessarily bright during evenings and nights.

Weather, temperature and surrounding environment

The display construction needs to protect the electronics and components against rain, moisture, dust and changing temperatures.

We review the conditions of the location and select an appropriate enclosure rating, construction, cooling system and materials.

Installations near coastal areas, industrial environments or other exposed locations may require additional adaptations.

Display size, format and resolution

LED displays are built from modules and cabinets with fixed dimensions. The display can therefore be adapted very closely to the requested size, but not to every possible millimetre measurement.

We specify the image area according to the location, content and viewing distance. The display can be built in a standard aspect ratio or as a wide, vertical or fully customized format.

With the right video processing, standard video signals can be scaled and positioned correctly even on displays with unusual proportions.

Supporting structure, mounting and wind load

The LED display and its supporting structure need to be designed according to the weight, size and placement of the display, as well as the wind loads that may occur.

We prepare the necessary technical documentation and can coordinate the solution with structural engineers, property owners, building contractors and other parties involved in the project.

The structure is also planned around cable routes, ventilation, service access and the required finished appearance.

Power, signal and network

The electrical supply is specified according to the maximum power consumption of the display and can be divided across several circuits when required.

Grounding, surge protection and the placement of power distribution also need to be included in the planning.

The video signal can be transmitted using network cable or fibre, depending on the distance and design of the installation.

A stable network connection to the media player or control system is normally also required for remote content management.

Reliability and redundancy

For installations with high availability requirements, the solution can include redundant signal paths, dual power supplies or other forms of technical backup.

The required level of redundancy is assessed according to how critical the display is to the operation and the consequences of a potential interruption.

Service access and maintenance

LED modules, power supplies and other components need to remain accessible for future service.

Depending on its placement, the display can be designed for service access from the front, rear or both sides.

Displays installed at height may also require access by lift, service platform or another safe access route.

We supply project-specific spare parts and can complement the installation with support and a service agreement.

Design and installation

LED displays built around the location

The modular construction makes it possible to adapt the size, format and installation method of the display to the building, ground area or existing structure.

Facade-mounted LED display

The LED display is installed on a façade using a project-specific supporting structure.

Mounting points, wind load, service access and cable routes are planned according to the conditions of the building.

Freestanding LED display

The display is installed on a freestanding steel structure, pylon or another ground-anchored construction.

This solution is suitable for commercial areas, entrances, roads and public spaces.

Roof-mounted LED display

Displays installed on rooftops or high on a building place specific requirements on the supporting structure, wind load, service access and safe working routes.

Arena displays and LED perimeters

The LED display can be built as a large scoreboard, digital media cube or continuous LED perimeter around the playing area.

The supporting structure and protective features are adapted to the sport and the conditions of the arena.

Frequently asked questions about outdoor LED displays

The price is primarily affected by the display size, pixel pitch, brightness, supporting structure, placement, video processing and installation method.

Construction work, access equipment or cranes, cable routes, electrical installation and future service access can also affect the total project cost.

Send us a photo or drawing, approximate dimensions and the estimated viewing distance. This is normally enough for us to recommend a suitable technical specification and provide an initial budget estimate.

This primarily depends on the viewing distance, display size and the type of content being shown.

A display viewed from a walkway or entrance normally requires a finer pixel pitch than a large advertising display mainly viewed from a road or from a longer distance.

We calculate a suitable pixel pitch based on the location and the image quality required for the project.

The brightness needs to be adapted to the placement, orientation and exposure to direct sunlight.

A display installed in a sunny, open location requires higher brightness than one installed in the shade.

Automatic brightness control can be used to adjust the output throughout the day.

Yes, provided that the display and installation are designed for the relevant outdoor environment.

The enclosure, materials, connections, cabling and supporting structure need to be selected and installed correctly to protect the electronics against water, moisture, dust and changing temperatures.

This depends on the size and placement of the display, the property and the assessment made by the relevant municipality.

Façade-mounted, freestanding and larger digital signs may require planning permission. Brightness, moving content, traffic safety and the effect on the surrounding environment may also be included in the assessment.

We can assist with technical documentation, but the final decision is made by the relevant municipality.

Yes. The solution can be specified for continuous operation.

Permitted operating hours and brightness levels may, however, be affected by planning permission, placement, nearby residential properties or traffic environments.

The control system can therefore be programmed with different schedules and brightness levels.

The display can be connected to a computer, media player, presentation system or another video source.

For digital signage, we can complement the installation with a media player and content management system. Content can then be updated, scheduled and managed remotely over the internet.

Individual LED modules, power supplies and other components can be replaced without dismantling the entire display.

Regular inspections, cleaning and preventative maintenance are recommended according to the placement and operating hours of the display.

We supply spare parts and can provide an ongoing service agreement.

Yes. Trefyr can offer financing options through an external financing partner.

The terms and structure are adapted to the investment and the company or organization making the purchase.
